Banana Republic x Piece & Co.

Piece & Co. and Banana Republic are joining forces to create a Summer 2017 capsule that intertwines fashion and global impact, featuring hand-crafted fabrics sustainably produced by female-led artisan groups in Ghana and South Africa. The limited-edition Piece & Co. for Banana Republic Collection will be available in Banana Republic stores in North America, Japan and online at in June 2017.

Through this partnership, Banana Republic is committed to working with Piece & Co.’s network of artisans across the world to create collections made of environmentally and socially responsible fabrics. In Ghana and South Africa, female artisans hand-crafted the Banana Republic prints utilizing unique techniques local to the regions. Through their partnership with Piece & Co., these female-led artisan groups are building sustainable businesses and empowering their communities while sharing their unique craftsmanship.

The 20-piece limited edition capsule for women’s and men’s clothing and accessories uniquely marries Banana Republic’s contemporary style with hand-crafted textiles from the African artisanal groups, resulting in modern silhouettes with fresh prints and light-weight fabrics just in time for summer. The abstract floral prints are inspired by South African flora and fauna in the Western Cape and delicately executed through the artisans’ proprietary sun dyeing technique. The saturated geometric prints from Ghana are hand crafted through the artisans’ wax-resistant batik dyeing process. The collection features a palette of rich blue and purples with accents of gray and white. Banana Republic honors the beauty of these textile techniques and the contributions of these artisan communities by showcasing them through the strong and contemporary Banana Republic aesthetic.
